The sun had dropped below the tree line 15 minutes before sunset, but the barn owls wings continued to pick up the glow in the sky, highlighting the details in their wings.
As this barn owl hunted, the barn owl spotted prey in the grasses, changing direction with a swift arcing swoop before descending into the grasses.

Knowing this site well, the Barn Owls often sat in the dark tree line. When the Barn Owl swooped out over the field for its next hunt, I was fortunate enough that it came straight at me. As it emerged from the shadows half of it was bathed in the late evening light, whilst the other half remained in shadow, creating this ‘phantom’ type appearance.

Twilight upon us, the barn owl flew from the shadows over the meadow towards me in a near perfect symmetrical V. Its focus could not be shaken, nor the intent disturbed, for it had one thing on its mind. The stealthy, silent hunter would prove fatal to its prey, the vole, if not wise to its presence.

In the last of the Winter evening light, a Barn Owl was hunting over a meadow. On spotting a potential meal, the barn owl hovers above the ground, waiting for the right moment to descend on its prey.

Barn owls possess a luminescence in their wings, making them visible in even the darkest of conditions. They silently appear from the shadows, ghost like and haunt their pray.
I embarked on trying to highlight the barn owl’s celestial qualities. Using a slow shutter speed I’ve looked to capture the barn owls ghostly movements as it silently hunts over a grassy meadow at dusk.

One autumn evening, I spotted this barn owl fly into the trees. I waited in anticipation for it to re-emerge, hoping it would leave in my direction. As it did so, the soft late evening light caught the owl, lighting it up, leaving the shadows behind it.

A barn owl returned to its roost by a familiar route, with its latest catch. As the sun set behind the owl, the backlighting outlined the barn owl and the vole against the shadows.

The ghost like qualities of a barn owl mixed with the beautiful ethereal nature of an angel. The exquisite purity of their white plumage as they gracefully emerge from the shadows. Combined with a deadly ability to kill at will, silently stalking their prey from above and historically considered the 'bird of doom' owing to their mind shattering shriek.
